My friends tease me with the moniker "multi-task woman." I work part time, parent full time and volunteer for a variety of organizations. My home is Ann Arbor, Michigan, and I grew up in New York City. I still go to NYC several times a year, and I think my roots there show up in my writing.
Now I live on a dirt road and on a large enough piece of ground that my son can run about and that the deer are well fed.
Writing has always been a part of my life in one way or another. Growing up, I wrote poetry and stories, shifting to plays and film scripts in my adolescence. I ended up with a degree in theatre, and more or less made a living writing and directing plays, industrial videos, etc., out of college, but I shifted to education when I became exasperated with the behavior of folks in the "theater world." As a teacher, I mostly wrote curriculum and an odd article, (which shifted to many articles, mostly unpublished, during a couple of graduate degrees) but then I worked on international educational exchanges and wrote publicity, etc.
Some years after having my son, my husband and I decided that our best family investment was for me to stay home and be with him, and at that point I worked part time for an organization where I mostly did publicity writing and events planning. That little part time job became "the job that ate my life," so now I am back to writing industrial scripts, articles, publicity pieces and teaching very part time. Believe it or not, my main priority is being home with my son - the other things are on the side!
I became interested in WVU after taking a different online writing course. I had missed creative writing and WVU gave me a perfect outlet. I write mostly short stories here, but I have just started my first novel, so that is exciting even for the pure discipline of it!
I have greatly enjoyed the classes and study groups that I have participated in here at WVU and am happy to be able to give back a little through site guiding.
Rah! Rah! WVU!
