Essay Submissions
Underwired publishes personal essays (800-1200 words) every month and is always looking for new contributors. Essays should somehow relate to the chosen theme for the month and be on topics of interest to women. Underwired buys one-time rights, and payment is $100 (Please note that payment, along with a copy of published piece, is sent when checks are processed. This could take between 30-60 days. Please do not email within this time frame as they can not respond to all email inquiries due to the volume that they receive). All essays are considered on spec. Please be familiar with personal essay style of writing. Underwired does not accept submissions for fiction or poetry at this time. Have fun!
Please send submissions direct to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Essays should be sent as an attachment as well as copied within the body of the email. Please include the month/theme that you are submitting for in the subject line. Submissions may also be sent snail mail to the attention of the Editor Underwired Magazine 455 S 4th St Suite 610 Louisville, Ky 40202. Essays will not be returned unless you include a self-addressed stamped envelope. Please include a brief bio with your submission. Essays that do not include a bio will not be considered! Deadlines are the 1st of the month for placement in the following month. Please see examples in bold at the top of this page. Underwired can not be held liable for the loss or damage of any work submitted for consideration. They reserve the right to edit for clarity and/or space. Please note: Due to the volume that they receive, they can not offer feedback. They have to consider many factors when selections are made, and a decline is not always reflective of a writer's style.
